Both the girls and boys golf teams from the Rock Ridge and Detroit Lakes school districts qualified for the Minnesota State High School League tournament this year.
Five other rural Northern Minnesota teams and nearly 90 student-athletes in total will compete Tuesday-Wednesday, June 9-10, on courses in and around the Twin Cities.
It's the second year in a row that both teams qualified for Detroit Lakes, with the Rock Ridge girls also qualifying last year. Also headed to state for the boys team competition are Brainerd, Frazee and Mahnomen-Waubun, while the other qualifying girls teams include Badger-Greenbush-Middle River and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.
Several top-10 finishers from last year are returning to this year's tourney, including senior boys Brock Burhans of Detroit Lakes, Maverick Reed of WHA and Isaiah Aulie of Pine River-Backus, and sophomore Brady Oseland of Brainerd.
Sophomore girls Sophie Christianson of Detroit Lakes and Lyric Aulie of PR-B each placed fourth last year in their respective classes and will seek to match or best those finishes this year.
All golfers compete for individual titles, whether they qualified on their own or as a team.
Class A will compete at Pebble Creek in Becker, 2A at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan and 3A at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Tickets are not needed to attend in person, but a $33 ticket is needed to follow along with the Minnesota State High School League golf app.
