Cherry, Pequot Lakes and Red Lake County are repeat qualifiers to the boys basketball state tournament. Grand Rapids is making its first appearance since 2017.

Wrestlers from Grand Rapids, Staples-Motley and Badger-Greenbush/Middle River topped the podium at state Feb. 28, 2026, with another 35 Northlanders from 12 teams winning medals.

The four teams will represent rural Northern Minnesota in the state tournament March 4-7, 2026, in the Twin Cities.

Over 100 student-athletes from rural Northern Minnesota will wrestle at the 2026 state tournament in St. Paul, with a strong representation from the north-central region.

Fifteen individual athletes from Northern Minnesota competed in the girls tennis singles and doubles state tournament Thursday and Friday in the Twin Cities.

Student-athletes from Wadena-Deer Creek, Pequot Lakes, Staples-Motley, Crosby-Ironton, Rock Ridge, Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks will compete in singles and doubles.

Crow Wing County, the Pequot Lakes School District and the cities of Breezy Point and Pequot Lakes joined together in the study of County Highway 11 near the school.

Brainerd senior Ty Nelson won another triple jump title Thursday, June 12, 2025, as Northern Minnesota 2A and 3A teams collectively won 88 medals at the state track and field meet.

The Detroit Lakes boys and girls teams won the Class 2A state golf tournaments. The Walker-Hackensack Akeley boys won the 1A title, and Pequot Lakes' Genevieve Birkeland is the girls 2A champ.

Nine Northern Minnesota teams advanced in total, plus another 40+ individuals from 26 Northland schools. The state golf tournament begins Tuesday.
