Working for KAXE/KBXE

KAXE/KBXE operates studios in Grand Rapids and Bemidji. Employees work in a hybrid fashion from either studio and remotely. We are an equal opportunity, family-friendly organization.

We believe rural people deserve media that includes all people and reflects life in Northern Minnesota. Our communities has divides, but we believe telling authentic stories can bridge differences.

Our current team is committed, welcoming and bursting with enthusiasm over the evolution and growth of KAXE/KBXE.

We fund our work through a combination of listener support, grants, business supporters and events. We are fully funded for our new initiatives and job hires.

Our Hiring Process

We are taking a cue from our friends at Strong Towns.

We know talent comes from many places and many people. We are looking to the future and are breaking from the traditional, institutional and impersonal method of hiring.

Instead of asking for your qualifications, cover letter and letters of reference to start, we want to get to know you in a different way.

How does this work?

If you are interested in applying, we ask you to answer our open-ended questions. We will not know your name or background as we read through your answers.

If our curiosity is piqued and we see shared values for our mission, we’ll begin a conversation with you.

We are excited to be building a new workplace with qualified and charismatic individuals who want to expand the work and solid reputation we have built in the last 47 years.

Northern Community Radio has a commitment to the principle of diversity, as it creates a healthier work environment.

In that spirit, we welcome applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
