Events this week include "A Very Good Christmas Carol" and the Heartland Lakes Community Tree Lighting in Park Rapids, Night We Light in Bemidji and Festival of Lights in Walker.

Park Rapids' Avery Schueller placed third in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle, and Two Harbors' Bella Imholte ended seventh in the 200 freestyle.

Events this week include Soup in the Street in Grand Rapids, an open mic night in Park Rapids and performances of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" in Mountain Iron.

Plus: MnDOT will host an open house on its Highway 34 corridor study in Park Rapids; and a state task force is hosting three public input sessions to gather information on how Minnesotans forage on state lands.

Separate from the Highway 71 corridor study, this visioning effort will identify longer-term goals and other potential improvements, like pedestrian crossing needs.

Dozens of Northern Minnesota student-athletes from nine area schools, including Grand Rapids and Bemidji, will compete at the 2025 state swimming and diving meet this week.

Events this week include trunk or treats in Hibbing, Turtle River and Grand Rapids; Hwy. 197 open house in Bemidji and a health fair in Park Rapids.

The health event, sponsored by Youth Emergency Shelter & Supports and Essentia Health, will be at the Armory Arts Center in Park Rapids on Oct. 21, 2025.

Charles Justus, 43, is accused of entering a trailer and stabbing a man he believed was having an affair with his wife, Danielle Westphal, 51. Both face numerous felonies.
