The Emergency Forest Order, which prohibited campfires and charcoal-fueled cookstoves, will be lifted on June 12, 2026.

ELY — A campfire ban for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness will end Friday, June 12, the Superior National Forest announced Thursday.

The campfire ban in the Boundary Waters has been in place since June 6 due to dry weather conditions and wildfire concerns. It was previously set to expire on June 30.

Officials urged visitors "to be aware of weather conditions in the area and take precautions to ensure a safe visit," in a news release Thursday.
