ST. PAUL — The girls state hockey tournament starts Wednesday, Feb. 18, with three teams representing the Northland.
No. 1 Warroad (21-5-1) will take the ice at Grand Casino Arena in the first game of the tournament. They’ll play No. 8 Luverne (19-9) at 11 a.m. in the Class 1A bracket.
Also in 1A, No. 5 Proctor-Hermantown (18-6-2) will follow around 1 p.m., playing No. 4 Dodge County (20-6-1). The Mirage beat the Wildcats 5-1 in a December match-up.
And in 2A, No. 5 Bemidji (20-5-1) will play No. 4 Edina (20-4-3) at 1 p.m. Thursday.
It’s the first time the Lumberjacks have made the tourney since 2007, and only the team’s third-ever appearance. They beat Moorhead 4-3 to win Section 8AA.
Warroad and Proctor-Hermantown are both, again, making repeat appearances in St. Paul.
The Warriors were runners-up last year and state champions in ‘22, ‘23 and ‘24. They shut out East Grand Forks 5-0 to win Section 8A and advance to their 11th straight state tourney.
The Mirage beat the North Shore Storm 5-1 in Section 7A to make their sixth straight appearance.
If both 1A teams win Tuesday, they’ll face each other in the semifinals 11 a.m. Friday. Warroad beat Proctor-Hermantown 4-1 in November.
The quarterfinal matches will be streamed on NSPN for free, but a subscription is required to watch the consolation and third place games on the service. The semifinals and championship games will be streamed by Prep 45.
