ORR — A 57-year-old man from the south metro died in a snowmobile crash Tuesday, Feb. 3, north of Orr.
The crash occurred on the Arrowhead Snowmobile Trail, about 1 mile north of Sheep Ranch Road and roughly 20 miles north of Orr.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office's initial investigation showed a collision happened between two snowmobilers traveling in opposite directions, shortly after noon Tuesday. They collided in a side-swipe fashion while navigating a curve in the trail.
The victim's snowmobile lost control and rolled several times, ejecting the driver. Despite extensive lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office reported.
The man's name was being withheld as of Wednesday morning, pending family notification.
The other driver was not injured.
The Department of Natural Resources, Bois Forte Police, Virginia Fire Department Sprint Medic, Life Link III air ambulance, Orr Ambulance, Orr Fire Department and Kabetogama First Responders also assisted at the scene.
