The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency wants to know how much fish you eat.
The anonymous, statewide survey aims to help the agency better understand people’s possible exposure to environmental contaminants.
"We will then combine this information with what we know about contaminants in lakes and rivers to help us understand how much fish people can eat with minimal risk to their health," the survey states.
"We use that information to limit the amount of contaminants entering Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, and streams, making the fish safer to eat."
Some contaminants, such as mercury, may accumulate in fish and the people who eat them.
By determining the amount of fish consumed by Minnesotans, the PCA reported it hopes to establish the levels of contaminants that are safe for human consumption. The agency then acts accordingly to limit contaminants discharged into Minnesota waters.
