DETROIT LAKES — Essentia Health will host an infant burial and memorial service Sunday, May 4, in Detroit Lakes in remembrance of babies lost through miscarriage or stillbirth.

The longstanding event is dedicated to those who have lost a child in infancy and provides a safe space for them to grieve, a news release from the health care organization states.

"Experiencing the loss of a baby is challenging and painful for any family," said Paige Perrine, Essentia birthplace supervisor and registered nurse, in the release.

" ... In addition to honoring the memory of their baby, we hope patients and families can connect with and find support from others in the community with similar experiences.”

The event is open to the public and will take place rain or shine. The service will begin at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery on Highway 59.
