BEMIDJI — Music lovers were dancing in the street at the Beltrami Block Party, a communitywide event from Brigid's Pub, Keg N' Cork and KAXE on Saturday, June 27.
With food and beverages available from the restaurants and a full lineup of musicians, people were happy to enjoy free live music all day long on Beltrami Avenue.
Local openers Sonny Johnson, Caige Jambor and Tiny Town brought great dynamic talent to kick off the day before Little Fevers pumped up the mid-afternoon energy with their catchy indie rock tunes.
David Huckfelt, backed by Erik Koskinen and his band, played songs from his latest album I Was Born, But..., and also treated attendees to a new song from his yet-to-be-announced album. Koskinen's set featured the Northern Minnesota debut addition of fiddler Kora Melia, who sounds like she's always been playing with the band.
KAXE Music Director Kari Hedlund noted, "Great musicianship was on display all day at the Beltrami Block Party! In spite of a rain that also wanted to stay and party, the musicians played on and attendees came prepared with umbrellas and rain jackets."
KAXE members and volunteers were among the community-minded crowd, coming from Brainerd, Grand Rapids and more areas within the KAXE broadcast region. Long-distance music lovers joined the listeners and dancers as well, hanging out shoulder-to-shoulder with Bemidji residents.
In spite of rain pouring down, the vibes and energy were high and the people danced on!
Thanks to the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund for helping make this event possible.
