On the River
When did you start volunteering at the station?
Spring of 2023
How did you first hear about KAXE?
I’m no stranger to community radio. I actively looked for a community radio station before moving to Northern Minnesota. I found it on an app called Radio Garden.
Your favorite recent album or artist?
Echo45 Sound System by Nightmares on Wax
Who got you into music?
There wasn’t a person who introduced me to music. I just naturally loved music.
Most memorable concert or festival?
I saw the Black Keys in Chicago for New Year's Eve in 2011. I’d recently moved back to my home state of Illinois. Didn’t think I’d know anyone at the show, but I was surprised by a group of old high school buddies spotting me out of the crowd. The show was amazing!
Tell us about your favorite KAXE memory.
I was getting the computers set up for a smooth running radio show. About three minutes before going on air and the mouse on the computer starts flying across the two screens and all the radio adds are now missing. First thought was, I’d messed something up. Second, thought the computer was getting hacked! Third, I thought get a hold of Dan. Dan got right back to me saying it was Steve Neu doing remote work. Scared me pretty good, but I also laughed very hard once knowing I didn’t mess anything up.
Favorite fellow on-air DJ at KAXE?
Too many to just name one.
What hobbies do you have outside of DJing?
Crafting, knitting, and gardening
What's a musical ick for you?
None that I know of.
Prince or Dylan?
Prince
KAXE is turning 50 in 2026! Why should KAXE exist for another 50 years?
KAXE is a rare gem in Northern Minnesota. It is a beacon of hope that there is diversity on our radio dial.
Sarah Sarah's 50 Songs
In honor of KAXE turning 50, we asked our volunteers to send us a playlist of 50 songs that help tell their musical story.
