Every Friday morning, we get to know one of our members on "What's for Breakfast." Last week, we talked with Dennis Dantes from Eveleth.

Events this week include a Mesabi Community Band concert in Eveleth, an arts fundraiser in Bemidji and a 'Nutcracker' story time in Grand Rapids.

Events this week include an author talk in Brainerd, the First Friday Art Walk in Grand Rapids and craft sales in many communities.

Motorists can expect lane closures at various locations on Highway 53 and shoulder closures on Highway 37 as additional work continues.

St. Louis County said the closure will last for the duration of the week starting Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, as crews work on the railroad crossing.

Starting Aug. 27, 2025, motorists will transition back to Highway 53 near Eveleth, with lane shifts, head-to-head traffic and traffic control expected.

Meetings in Eveleth, Duluth, Cohasset, Little Falls and online will give the public a chance to comment on how the utility plans to provide power through 2039.

Those traveling on Highway 37 may see delays of up to 10 minutes while beams are moved from trucks and put in place.

The city will use the funds to refurbish and replace outdated playground equipment as well as enhance the functionality and accessibility for all ages and abilities.

Plus: Extreme heat and possible severe weather could be in store for much of the Northland over the weekend; Carlos Hernandez was narrowly elected Bois Forte chairman in a special election on June 17, 2025; the Minnesota DNR and Brainerd Lakes Area Master Naturalists will hold an AIS workshop; Eveleth received a $200K grant to upgrade a city playground; Beltrami County will begin work on a new shared-use trail near Bemidji High School; and MnDOT crews are making progress on planned construction near Hackensack and Wadena.
