EVELETH — The city of Eveleth received a $200,000 grant for affordable housing and community development, according to a news release on Wednesday, June 18.
The city will use the funds to refurbish and replace outdated playground equipment as well as enhance the functionality and accessibility for all ages and abilities. According to the release, city officials said they want to create an inviting space for residents and those in surrounding communities.
The city received the grant from Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines and the Miners National Bank of Eveleth through the Member Impact Fund. The grant is part of $20 million FHLB Des Moines awarded to support affordable housing and community development in Minnesota.
The Member Impact Fund provides members of FHLB Des Moines up to $3 for every $1 in matching grant donations. Recipients were selected based on the needs for grant funding to support job training, affordable housing, financial banks and youth programs.
FHLB Des Moines has awarded almost $70 million in grants through the Member Impact Fund since the grant program began in 2023.
