Fall officially begins Tuesday! Here's what's happening this week in Northern Minnesota.
Tuesday, Sept. 22
- Autumnal Equinox Sunrise Celebration - 7-8 a.m. at Tioga Beach near Grand Rapids. This event includes a sun salutation and a short writing exercise. Bring your own chair and beverage.
Wednesday, Sept. 23
- Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning program - 9:30 a.m. at McIntosh Community Center. Stephenie Anderson will talk about Viking and Norwegian history. Doors open at 9 a.m. for coffee and goodies.
Thursday, Sept. 24
- Brainerd School Board candidate forum - 6 p.m. at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts at Brainerd High School
- Poetry Slam - 6 p.m. music, 7 p.m. poetry at Fozzie's BBQ in Bemidji.
- Moving Words: Writers Across Minnesota - 6 p.m. at Park Rapids Area Library. Hear from three Minnesota authors: Okwudili Nebeolisa, David Hage and Jess Lourey.
Friday, Sept. 25
- Ageless Expo - 9 a.m.-noon at The Center in Brainerd
- Frankenfeldt - 7 p.m. at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids
Saturday, Sept. 26
- Walk for Hope - 8 a.m. at Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues in Bemidji. The 5k walk will go to the Bemidji State University campus and back, offering support for those affected by suicide. Register
- North Country Trail group hike - 9 a.m. This 13-mile hike will go from Highway 6 to Tioga Beach near Grand Rapids. Email to RSVP and receive more details.
- Fix It Event - 9 a.m.-noon at Happy Dancing Turtle in Pine River. Bring household items that need repairing.
- Riding the Range for Care Partners - 9 a.m. registration at Eggy's Red Garter in Eveleth, with ATV ride departing at 10 a.m. Proceeds go toward Iron Rangers fighting cancer.
- Art Leap - 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at various sites throughout Hubbard, Cass and Becker counties
- Serenity Stroll - 10 a.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park. Meet at the west picnic area for this one mile hike on the Rocky Point Trail.
- Doxie Derby - 1-3:30 p.m. at Klockow Brewing in Grand Rapids. Proceeds benefit Great Tails Animal Rescue.
- Kids' Fall Leaf Color Walk - 2 p.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park. Meet at the playground.
- Northland MUFON monthly meeting - 2-4:30 p.m. at VFW Post 1720 in Grand Rapids
- Night of the Notables: Lantern Walk - 6:30-8 p.m. at Itasca State Park. Take a self-guided walk on a lantern-lit trail and visit with park naturalists along the way. Meet at the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center.
- Frankenfeldt - 7 p.m. at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids
Sunday, Sept. 27
- Art Leap - 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at various sites throughout Hubbard, Cass and Becker counties
- "Art of the Game" celebration - 12-3 p.m. 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 6 p.m. dinner, 7 p.m. fashion show and live music at powwow grounds in Ball Club. "Art of the Game" is a new mural painted by Annie Humphrey on the basketball court.
- Frankenfeldt - 2 p.m. at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids
