Events Up North June 15-21: 'Aladdin, Jr.' in Brainerd, Juneteenth celebrations in Grand Rapids and Virginia

Events this week include a send-off for Special Olympians in Bemidji and garden tours at Happy Dancing Turtle in Pine River.

It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:

Monday, June 15

Tuesday, June 16

  • Tuesday Summer Concert Series - noon at Grace Bible Church in Grand Rapids. "Shake, Rattle and Roll" with percussionist Brady Kacon and friends.
  • Creature Connections: The Reptile Experience - 1 p.m. at Keewatin Public Library, 3:30 p.m. Marble Public Library.
  • Aladdin, Jr. - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater on the campus of Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Tickets.

Wednesday, June 17

  • Creature Connections: The Reptile Experience - 10 a.m. at Chisholm Public Library, 3:30 p.m. Mountain Iron Public Library.
  • The Jolly Pops - 1 p.m. at Grand Rapids Area Library, 4 p.m. Marble Public Library
  • Rubik's Cube competition - 3 p.m. at the Virginia Public Library.
  • Aladdin, Jr. - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater on the campus of Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Tickets.

Thursday, June 18

  • Creature Connections: The Reptile Experience - 10 a.m. at Cook Community Center, 3:30 p.m. Buhl Public Library.
  • Juneteenth Freedom Walk - 10 a.m. at Old Central School in Grand Rapids. Walk 2.5 miles around Crystal Lake and back to the school for a picnic. Register.
  • Special Olympics send-off -11:30 a.m. at Lucky Dogs in Bemidji, followed by a gathering at 12:30 p.m. at the Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox statues. Celebrate two Special Olympians who will compete in the USA Games in the sport of bowling.
  • Open Garden - 1-4 p.m. at Happy Dancing Turtle in Pine River.
  • Aladdin, Jr. - 7 p.m. at the Chalberg Theater on the campus of Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Tickets.

Sunday, June 21 (Happy Father's Day!)

  • Civil Air Patrol breakfast - 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Grand Rapids Airport. See aircraft display with all you can eat eggs, sausage and pancakes. $12 for ages 13 and up, $6 for ages 6-12, and free for ages 5 and under.
  • Land of the Loon Ethnic Arts & Crafts Festival - 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Olcott Park in Virginia
  • Community Potluck - Noon-3 p.m. at CHAIR in Virginia
