Which shows do you DJ?

On The River

When did you start volunteering at the station?

June 2023

How did you first hear about KAXE?

Commuting to Duluth for work in early 90's. Scanned the dial and there it was. Started listening to the Morning Show and enjoyed the conversational tone. No one was hollering at me trying to sell me stuff I didn't need.

Your favorite recent album or artist?

Jason Isbell, Jesse Welles

Who got you into music?

I was the youngest of 8 siblings. Music was always playing in the house when I was young. My mom played the guitar and sang.

Most memorable concert or festival?

So many it's hard to choose. Sheryl Crow and Larkin Poe at Red Rocks last year ranks near the top. Riverfest with Jason Isbell was great.

Tell us about your favorite KAXE memory.

Hearing my daughter Kayla's voice on the air. She and Ashley have done several After Dark shows together.

Favorite fellow on-air DJ at KAXE?

Hard to beat Julie Crab and Green Cheese.

What hobbies do you have outside of DJing?

Hiking, camping, games with my grown children. Road trips.

What's a musical ick for you?

Country artists rapping.

Prince or Dylan?

Both.

KAXE is turning 50 in 2026! Why should KAXE exist for another 50 years?

It's a true gem in the Northland. Nothing like it. Great variety of music. Personable fun DJs.

Dan was born on the south side of Chicago and remembers dancing to Booker T and the MG's as his 1st musical memory. What followed has been a lifelong adventure of hearing new music and being exposed to the people and communities that produced the artists. Forwards in all directions!
