Events Up North Jan. 12-18: Bingo at Buck Lake, Lecture Series at Forest History Center

Events this week include a games and puzzle swap in Pine River and the Second Annual Cardboard Classic sledding event in Deer River.

Here are some events to check out this week in Northern Minnesota:

Monday, Jan. 12

  • Town hall meeting on lead testing results - 6 p.m. at the Hibbing Memorial Building's Little Theater

Tuesday, Jan. 13

  • Cardboard sled building (to prep for Saturday's Cardboard Classic) - 3:30-5 p.m. at King Elementary School in Deer River

Wednesday, Jan. 14

Friday, January 16

  • Back to Hack - various times and locations throughout Hackensack

Saturday, Jan. 17

  • Back to Hack - various times and locations throughout Hackensack
  • Snowed In Swap - 9 a.m.-noon at Happy Dancing Turtle in Pine River. Find used puzzles, books, games, DVDs and CDs at this no cost event. If you have items to donate, they may be dropped off noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, or 8 a.m.-noon Friday, Jan. 16. You do not need to donate items to take items.
  • Bingo - 12:30 p.m. at Buck Lake Improvement Club, 12 miles north of Nashwauk. Games begin at 1 p.m. with lunch available for purchase.
  • Winter Lecture Series - 1 p.m. at Forest History Center in Grand Rapids. This presentation will delve into conservation, reclamation and repurposing practices over the past 120 years of Minnesota’s iron mining history.
  • Brrrmidji Kids Can Ice Fish - 1-3 p.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park. Meet at the park's visitor center. This event is part of the statewide Take a Kid Ice Fishing weekend.
  • 2nd Annual Cardboard Classic - 3 p.m. at Deer River sledding hill
