Voting booths set up in Nimrod Community Center on Primary Election Day, Aug. 11, 2026, in Nimrod.

The secretary of state's office highlighted the number in its weekly early voting update on Oct. 30, 2026. Early voting locations are open through the weekend ahead of Election Day.

ST. PAUL — More Minnesotans have already voted early as of Thursday, Oct. 29, than did in the 2022 election.

Since early voting opened Sept. 18, 728,961 ballots have been cast, according to the Secretary of State's office's Friday morning update. In the last midterms, a total of 673,360 early votes were cast.

Roughly a third of votes cast so far have been cast by mail.

There are still more than 208,000 absentee and mail ballots that haven't been returned, according to the update.

If you still have a ballot at home, officials said don't send it back by mail. Instead, deliver your ballot in person to your local election office. That way, you make sure it arrives by Election Day. Mail-in ballots aren't counted if they're late.

Early voting options in Minnesota began on Sept. 18, 2026. Those who aren't yet registered can do so now, or even on Election Day.

Non-mail absentee ballots can be turned in until 5 p.m. Nov. 3, and mail absentee ballots can be turned in until 8 p.m. Nov. 3.

You can track your ballot at mnvotes.gov.

With Election Day just around the corner, early voting locations will be open through the weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, early voting locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Monday, they'll be open until 5 p.m.
