BRAINERD — Denise Slipy announced her 2026 campaign to represent District 6 in the Minnesota Senate on July 9.
The DFL candidate ran against Republican state Sen. Keri Heintzeman in a special election to replace former Sen. Justin Eichorn in April. Heintzeman won with 60% of the vote, beating Slipy by 20 percentage points.
If no other candidates emerge on the DFL side, Slipy will likely run against Heintzeman again in 2026. Though Heintzeman has not officially announced she will run in the next election, she did collect donations for a 2026 run prior to the special election.
Slipy has served as a volunteer firefighter, first responder, corrections officer and reserve officer, according to a news release from her campaign. She plans to campaign on the environment, the economy, health care, education and mining.
