Another champ, 88 more medals: Northland state track 2A and 3A results

Pequot Lakes freshman Oliver Mckenna tied for third in high jump at the 2025 state track and field meet Thursday, June 12.

Brainerd senior Ty Nelson won another triple jump title Thursday, June 12, 2025, as Northern Minnesota 2A and 3A teams collectively won 88 medals at the state track and field meet.

Northern Minnesota has one more state champion after the 2025 state track and field tournament finished Thursday, June 12.

Brainerd senior Ty Nelson won his second triple jump title, jumping 2 feet farther than he did a year ago and setting a new class record of 49 feet, 7.25 inches in the process.

Northern Minnesota won another 88 medals between classes 2A and 3A. Northlanders brought home 47 in 1A.

Hermantown sophomore Martin Sleen finished second in the 200M, and East Grand Forks junior Jez Jones took second in the 400M. Sleen placed third in the 100M and ninth in the 4x100M relay with juniors Tanner Homstad, Corban Peterson and Grant Johnson. Jones also medaled in triple jump and the 4x400M with junior Dereon Dadeah and seniors Cooper Hills and Weston Mahar.

Another three students earned third-place medals: Cloquet freshman Kira Suominen in 300M hurdles, EGF senior Messi Kalenda in shot put and Pequot Lakes freshman Oliver Mckenna in high jump.

Events this week include the Hubbard County Fair in Park Rapids, "Willy Wonka" in Pequot Lakes, Smokey Bear Day at Itasca State Park and an author brown bag in Brainerd.
