Three Northern Minnesota teams and one student-athlete won titles at the 2025 Minnesota State High School League state golf tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10 and 11.
The Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys are first-time state champions. They dominated the Class 1A tournament, winning by 18 strokes. The Wolverines were led by junior Maverick Reed, who tied for fourth individually, and defending-state-champ senior Parker Brock, who tied for eighth.
The Detroit Lakes boys and girls teams won the 2A tournaments. The girls are back-to-back champions, winning the title for the ninth time in 15 state appearances, per the MSHSL. The boys captured their fourth title in as many showings.
Two Lakers placed individually: Junior Brock Burhans tied for third, and freshman Sophie Christianson tied for fourth.
Pequot Lakes senior Genevieve Birkeland is the 2A girls champion. Birkeland was a finalist for Ms. Minnesota Golf and will golf for the University of St. Thomas.

The Pequot girls finished seventh as a team, one place ahead of Rock Ridge.
In the 1A team competition, the Badger-Greenbush-Middle River boys finished sixth, the girls fifth and the WHA girls seventh. The Cloquet boys placed fifth in 2A.
