The state boys Swim and Dive meet will have 50 Northland entries made up of 51 student-athletes from eight area schools.

Swimmer and divers from across Northern Minnesota will make their way to the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota for the boys state meet, set for Thursday through Saturday, March 6-8.

Eight schools from the region qualified at least one athlete: Bemidji, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, International Falls, Mesabi East and Park Rapids. Each of the 12 events will have at least three Northland entries.

The top three from each section in each swimming event in Class A and the top two in AA advance to the state competition. The top four divers advance.

Swimmers can also advance if they meet the pre-determined state qualifying times, even if they don't finish in the top two or three.

Detroit Lakes senior Blake Swenson set a Section 5A record in the 100-yard backstroke, and Grand Rapids sophomore Zak Vidmar set a Section 6A record in the 100-yard breaststroke.

State starts with diving preliminaries on Thursday. A begins at noon and AA begins at 6 p.m.

Swimming preliminaries will be on the same schedule on Friday, and swim and dive finals on the same schedule on Saturday.

Spectators can stream the competition on NSPN.tv; a subscription is required.

Live results and heat sheets can be found on the MSHSL's website.
