Two rural Northern Minnesota teams will represent the Northland at the Minnesota State High School League girls hockey state tournament this week.
Warroad beat Crookston 4-2 in the Section 8A championship. Despite being the Star Tribune's top-ranked Class 1A team — and being the three-time defending champs — the Warriors are the No. 3 seed in the state tourney. They'll play No. 6 Marshall at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
If they win the tournament, Warroad would be the first girls hockey team with a four-peat.
On the opposite side of the 1A bracket is No. 5 Proctor/Hermantown. They beat Rock Ridge 6-1 in the Section 7A championship.
Proctor/Hermantown will face No. 4 Academy of Holy Angels in the final quarterfinal match at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Tournament tickets can be purchased at mshsl.org/tickets. The semifinal and championship games will be streamed at prep45.com.
NSPN.tv will offer complimentary streaming of the quarterfinals. The consolation and third-place games will be available with a subscription.
