Album of the Week - Some of Us Are Brave by Danielle Ponder

A former public defender turned multi-instrumentalist musician, Danielle Ponder, is out with her highly anticipated debut album, Some of Us Are Brave. The title of the album comes from a book Ponder read in law school, ‘All the Women are White, All the Blacks are Men: But Some of Us Are Brave’ – a collection of stories by Black women writers. Identifying closely with that book, it has been an influence on Ponder ever since.

The album is named after that book to honor Ponder's biggest inspirations in life and cheerleaders and support: her sisters, mother and Black women. It tells personal stories of heartbreak, bravery and personal freedom, told through Ponder's clear and powerful voice.

The music director at KAXE since 2014, Kari (pronounced Car-ee) Hedlund reviews music on the daily. She also hosts New Music every Wednesday (2 and 10 p.m.) and Sunday (noon), along with the KAXE Morning Show on Thursdays.
