Album of the Week: Runaway by Wild Horses

Band out of Grand Rapids, Wild Horses out with a debut album, Runaway

If you've been listening to KAXE over the past year, or attended the Grand Rapids Riverfest in 2021, you'll recognize the name Wild Horses. Made up of Grand Rapidians, Jed & Ariana LaPlant, McKeon Hugh Roberts and JJ Snell, the band has released their debut album called Runaway.

After they made their debut as a band on the west stage at Riverfest, they spent the last year building and honing in on their sound. Spending time in and out of the recording studio and performing throughout the state, they have put together a record that displays their vision, talents, varying energy. The album creates a journey of sounds, a little bit dark and shadowy with a whole lotta love.

They are headed out west (tour dates here) this next week before they play main stage at the Grand Rapids Riverfest, Saturday, September 10th! Sharing the stage with Chastity Brown, Shovels & Rope and headliners, Wilco, you'll get to hear these songs live and in person from Wild Horses in true festival fashion.

The music director at KAXE since 2014, Kari (pronounced Car-ee) Hedlund reviews music on the daily. She also hosts New Music every Wednesday (2 and 10 p.m.) and Sunday (noon), along with the KAXE Morning Show on Thursdays.
