Events Up North March 18-22: Bemidji contra dance, Hibbing polar plunge

Events this week include a senior citizens' lunch in Pengilly, a choir concert in Baxter and a maple syrup talk at Lake Bemidji State Park.

Even though it still feels plenty wintry as we approach the first day of spring, there's plenty to do in Northern Minnesota to keep us busy.

Wednesday, March 18

  • Carving Your Clan workshop - 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Calumet Public Library
  • Virtual presentation, "The Redistricting War: How It Affects Voters" - 4 p.m., hosted by the League of Women Voters of Park Rapids Area. Registration information.

Thursday, March 19

  • Vital records program - 10 a.m. in the board room of the Beltrami County Administration Building in Bemidji. Historian Lois Jenkins will discuss how birth, death and marriage certificates help trace family history. You'll also see a demonstration of the public portal for accessing these records.
  • Senior citizen lunch - 11 a.m. at Community Church in Pengilly. Seniors can enjoy a free meal, music and fellowship on the first and third Thursday of each month.
  • Carving Your Clan workshop - 1-4 p.m. at Keewatin Public Library
  • Concordia Chapel Choir concert - 7 p.m. at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter. Tickets and more info.

  • Childcare as Community Infrastructure panel - 12:30 p.m. at Northwest Technical College commons in Bemidji, featuring elected representatives, business leaders and parents. They will discuss how quality child care can make an entire community successful. You are welcome to share your thoughts.
  • "New Beginnings, Stepping Forward" open house - 1-4 p.m. at Borealis Art Guild in Hibbing
