EVELETH — Dennis Dantes wasn't our ordinary What's for Breakfast guest.
To put it simply, not only was he a hoot, but he may become our new best friend.
His breakfast consisted of strong coffee with two cookies: an oatmeal raisin and a date-filled sugar cookie. When asked if he dipped the cookies in his coffee, Dennis said, "No dippage, my cookies are moist."
And it wasn't just his cookies. Dennis told about his dog, a standard poodle named Bracket, who dictates what to have for breakfast.
"He looks at me and says, 'A sugar cookie first,'" Dennis explained.
As we came to know Dennis, we found out he has a wife and two daughters and is retired from United Taconite.
"I had 43 years with the company. It was a great, great life, it really was."
Dennis told about his years as a laborer, where he did everything from running a No. 2 shovel to running the big shovels that loaded the production trucks.
He loved the work and misses it. "We always had a laugh. Always. That's just the way work was. I mean, we made something good out of everything in our lives, and work was one of them."
