Every Friday morning, we get to know one of our members on "What's for Breakfast." This week, we talked with Billy Shaw from Blaine.

BLAINE — Recently on "What's for Breakfast" on the KAXE Morning Show, we got to talk to Billy Shaw, who currently lives in Blaine but grew up in Grand Rapids.

He was once known as "Billy the Pie Boy," as he made and sold pies to raise money for college. Now a father of two young kids, he said we can call him "Billy the Pie Dad."

Billy hadn't had breakfast when we talked with him because he had just dropped his kids off at day care.

The rest of his family already had breakfast: overnight oats. It's a recipe consisting of yogurt, oatmeal, fruit and milk. It's something you can prepare a few days in advance, and then have over a couple of days.

Billy was planning to have some later that morning. When he has work, he usually packs some of the overnight oats to bring with him, but today, Billy was at home.

On the topic of breakfast foods, we also talked about cereal. Billy's favorite cereal growing up was Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

"I remember being a kid and my mom not wanting me to eat those cereals, and now I'm in that position of looking for low-sugar cereals for my children."

He said he still has Cinnamon Toast Crunch occasionally, but he has to keep it a secret from his kids. He usually has it as a nighttime snack, rather than a breakfast food.

Billy also brought up cooking. He didn't get to help much with preparing breakfast this morning since his family decided to have it earlier, but he did help prepare a nice meal for dinner last night. The main course was shrimp bought from a Fabian Shrimp Truck that occasionally comes to Grand Rapids and Blaine, and on the side was a dish made with green beans grown in their garden.

Finally, Billy told us why he listens to KAXE. He loves how it brings the community together, and that there's nothing else like it around.
