LITTLEFORK — A draft of the Little Fork River Watershed Management Plan is open for public comment through Aug. 14.
The plan will guide the implementation of voluntary conservation projects and programs in the watershed over the next decade.
Examples of potential projects supported by the plan are repairing eroding shorelines, planting cover crops on agricultural land, installing cattle exclusion fencing or sealing unused wells.
The plan was collaboratively created by the Koochiching, North St. Louis and Itasca soil and water conservation districts; Koochiching, Itasca and St. Louis counties; and the cities of Little Fork and Cook.
A news release states the approval of the plan will allow for access to reliable, non-competitive funding to support projects through the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment and the state Board of Water and Soil Resources.
More information about the plan, including how to comment, can be found on the Koochiching SWCD website.
