Three fires burn in the Boundary Waters amid dry fall conditions. Elevated fire risk prompted burning restrictions in the Superior National Forest and much of the Arrowhead.

Brian Dreher, Jake Hasbargen, Vickie Hasbargen, Douglas Jourdan, Bob Stueven and Thomas VanDamme are running for I.S.D. 363, South Koochiching, School Board.

Harley Droba, Roger J. Skraba and Rich Tru are running to represent District 3A, which includes Cook, Lake, Koochiching and portions of Itasca and St. Louis counties.

A citizen group challenged the closure of the South Koochiching-Rainy River school near the Canadian border. This leaves only the Northome School to serve the 1,500-square-mile district.

Two candidates are vying to fill a seat in a special election vacated by the death of Wayne Skoe in February 2023.

New commissioners will be seated soon in Hubbard, Roseau, Polk and Red Lake counties, while two candidates in Koochiching will advance to the general election in November.

Three county commissioner districts in the region have vacancies.

The forum will be at Northome City Hall and is open to the public. The four candidates are Dale E. Erickson from Birchdale, Rich Mastin from Big Falls, Dale Promersberger from Big Falls and Erika Stoltzman from Margie.
