The Wolverines also have five students competing in the individual tournament, with other Northland entries from Cloquet, Thief River Falls and Crookston.

The spring sports postseason is in full swing, with the softball, track and field and boys tennis tournaments set to begin next week.

There are still softball games and track meets set for later this week, but the field is set for the tennis tourney in Minneapolis.

Northern Minnesota will only have athletes competing in the Class A tournament.

Rock Ridge will represent the Northland in the team tourney beginning Tuesday, June 2. It’s the Wolverines' sixth-straight appearance, and they were runners-up last year. The girls tennis team was the state champion in the fall.

Rock Ridge also has three entries in the individual tournament, set for June 4-5. The Wolverines also have three entries in the individual tourney. The doubles team of senior Wyatt Frederick and junior Hayden Gonzales and senior duo Colton Bialke and Aidan Sandnas qualified, as did junior Gage Benz in singles.

Seniors Ethan Lavan of Cloquet and Jett Cornelius of Thief River Falls will also compete in singles. This is Lavan's fourth-straight state appearance. Rounding out the Northland entries is the Crookston doubles team of senior Reggie Winjum and junior Grant Funk.

The top team from each of the eight sections advances to state, as do the top two singles and doubles competitors.

The Class A tournament will be played at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center. The semifinals and finals matches for singles and doubles can be streamed on NSPN with a subscription. You can follow the brackets on the state high school league's website.
