OSAGE — One woman is dead after a house fire in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 18, in Osage, about 10 miles west of Park Rapids.
The fire was reported by a 911 caller around 4:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff's Office. A man who lived in the house flagged down a passing motorist on Highway 34 and said a woman was possibly still inside the home.
The woman was later found inside and pronounced dead at the scene. An ambulance brought the man to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids for smoke inhalation and possible burns.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the names of those impacted will be released after the woman's autopsy.
The sheriff's office said Carsonville Fire and Rescue, Park Rapids Fire Department, the State Fire Marshal's office and North Memorial Ambulance assisted in the response.
