Quarterdeck Resort plans to add 13 four-bedroom rentals in its second expansion since Leisure Hotels and Resorts bought the property in 2022.

Quarterdeck Resort on the west shore of Gull Lake used to be one of the lake's smallest, but the new owner is planning its second expansion in three years.

NISSWA — The environmental review of a proposed Gull Lake resort expansion is available for review and comment through Aug. 21.

Quarterdeck Resort on the lake’s west shore plans to add 13 rental homes and a maintenance yard with a new shop.

The homes will have four bedrooms and a two-stall attached garage.

According to the environmental assessment worksheet, construction will take 18-24 months, and site preparation is planned for as soon as this fall.

The nearly 70-year-old Quarterdeck was one of the smaller resorts on Gull before it was bought by Leisure Hotels and Resorts in 2022, which added another two dozen or so homes and cabins.

In Minnesota, certain projects must go through environmental review before permits or approvals are given, often due to the project’s type, size or location.

This expansion project needed a review because of its scale when combined with Quarterdeck's last expansion and its location on the shores of the lake.

The review describes the project’s potential impact to air, land and water resources and ways to reduce negative effects.

The project’s environmental assessment worksheet is available online or in person at the Cass County Courthouse and Kitchigami Regional Library.

Comments on the review should be sent to Scott Wold, Cass County planner.
