WALKER — The National Weather Service in Duluth issued a flash flood warning Friday afternoon, July 11, for west-central Cass County.
The warning is in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, with flash flooding expected of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage or low-lying areas. Walker, Leech Lake and Whipholt are all within the warning area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
At 1:50 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.
The weather service reminds people to turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
