Eight individuals and one team from Northern Minnesota qualified for the Minnesota State High School League's state boys tennis tournament, set for Tuesday through Friday, June 3-6, in Minneapolis.
Undefeated Rock Ridge beat Hibbing 5-2 in the Section 7A championship to make the team's fifth straight tournament appearance.
Rock Ridge senior Grady Dimberio and junior Aidan Sandnas (10-3 record) also qualified in doubles. As did Hibbing juniors Isaiah Hildenbrand and Keaton Petrick (6-0) and Thief River Falls seniors Spencer Hempel and Lucas Rantanen (5-2) in Section 8A.
Junior Ethan Lavan of Cloquet (18-2) in 8A and Jett Cornelius of Thief River Falls (19-1) qualified in singles.
One team from each section advances to the state tournament. The top two advance in singles and doubles.
The team tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday, with individual competitors taking the court Thursday and Friday. Class A will compete at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center.
