STAPLES — A man has died and two others were treated for smoke inhalation after a Tuesday house fire in rural Staples in Cass County.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the fire late Tuesday morning, April 16, and when responders arrived, the home was engulfed in flames. A second structure on the Byron Township property was also damaged by fire.
After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found the man’s body inside the house. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of family.
Fire departments from Staples, Motley and Pequot Lakes and the Lakewood Health System ambulance assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation with the assistance of the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.
