BEMIDJI — An additional 5,000 trees will be available on a first-come, first-service basis later this spring from the Reforest Bemidji program.
The original 10,000 tree seedlings offered were reserved within 48 hours. A news release from the tree-gifting nonprofit stated the high demand indicates “just how strongly Bemidji area residents want to be part of restoring the region’s tree canopy after last year’s storm damage.”
First National Bank of Bemidji is partnering with the organization to provide the additional trees to the public. A straight-line windstorm in June 2025 felled an estimated 9 million trees around Bemidji.
“First National Bank Bemidji saw the incredible community response to this project and immediately understood how much this means to the area,” stated Mike Nicklow, co-founder of Let’s Plant Trees.
“Their support is helping open the door for even more residents to receive trees, plant them at home, and be part of the larger effort to reforest Bemidji.”
The distribution day for pre-reserved trees will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Sanford Event Center.
Public pickup begins in the same spot the next day, Sunday, May 17. Distribution will begin at 10 a.m. until gone, with no pre-registration required.
