In a rematch of District 3's 2022 election, Grant Hauschild has defeated Andrea Zupancich to return to St. Paul in 2027.

State Sen. Grant Hauschild of Hermantown will return to the Minnesota Senate after defeating Andrea Zupancich of Babbitt.

Hauschild, 37, was first elected in 2022 and is one of the last remaining DFL state representatives from the Northland.

In 2022, Hauschild narrowly defeated Republican Zupancich by 703 votes, which is less than 2 percentage points. The incumbent widened the margin in the 2026 rematch.

The 2026 rematch drew a hefty cost. Hauschild’s campaign raised $250,567 during 2025 and through July 20 of this year, and Zupancich's campaign was helped along by Republican-aligned groups, who spent $925,000 attacking Hauschild or supporting Zupancich.

State Senate District 3 represents almost the entirety of the Minnesota Arrowhead. It includes Koochiching, Lake and Cook Counties and portions of Itasca and St. Louis Counties, including towns around the Duluth metro.

Hauschild will begin his four-year term in January.
