BRAINERD — DJ Dondelinger, Mark Lelwica and Randy Heidmann — the self-described "common sense trifecta" — are the top three candidates for Brainerd School Board and will begin their four-year terms in January.
Ed Shaw, Connie Lyscio and Scott Parsons received the fewest votes.
Dondelinger and Heidmann were running for reelection.
As was Sarah Speer, who finished in fourth, just behind Heidmann.
Referendum fails
A referendum projected to increase annual funding by $5 million failed by several thousand votes.
The levy would have raised property taxes on a $375,000 home by about $11 per month.
The school district said in the case the referendum did not pass, it would need to make budget cuts, which could mean closing at least one more school, increasing already-large class sizes and cutting programs.
