It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:
Monday, Oct. 5
- Brown Bag Author Series - noon at Brainerd Public Library. Jan D. Payne will talk about her latest thriller, Changing Woman's Hair.
- Grand Rapids Garden Club meeting - 6 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids. Sarah Nickel will present on transforming traditional landscapes into low maintenance, ecologically rich spaces.

Tuesday, Oct. 6
- Bemidji Adventures in Lifelong Learning - 10 a.m. at Bemidji Eagles Club. Caleb Curfman will give a talk called "Citizens, Soldiers and Revolution: The Human Side of America's War for Independence." Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for refreshments.
- Fire department open house - 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Grand Rapids Fire Hall. Meet emergency responders, tour the hall, take a ride on a firetruck and have a hot dog.
- Candlelight Vigil - 6 p.m. at Angel of Hope Park in Grand Rapids. This event is for parents grieving the loss of a child and those who support them.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
- Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook. Doors open at 9 a.m. for refreshments. Learn about the history and culture of the Danube River.
- Tamarack Water Alliance monthly meeting - 10 a.m., online. Emily Lavang will talk about the Indigenous concept of the rights of nature. Register
- Celebration of Nations - 3-7 p.m. at Central Lakes College in Brainerd
- Walk-in flu shot clinic - 4-6 p.m. at Itasca Resource Center in Grand Rapids
Thursday, Oct. 8
- Closing art reception - 2-4 p.m. at the Talley Gallery, located in Bridgeman Hall at Bemidji State University. See prints and textiles by Nancy Ariza.
- Choose Kindness event - 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Forestview Middle School in Baxter
- Banned book discussion - 6:30 p.m. in the McMahon Student Center at Minnesota North College in Grand Rapids
Friday, Oct. 9
- Starry Skies program - 7-10 p.m. at Sax-Zim Bog near Meadowlands. Register
Saturday, Oct. 10
- Pancake breakfast - 8-10:30 a.m. at Bemidji Senior Center
- Bigfork Hoedown - 3-4:30 p.m. at Bigfork City Hall. Learn how to dance reels, circle mixers and more with caller Lenore Siems. Open to all ages and skill levels.
- Fall Fest Candlelight Adventure - 6-8 p.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park
Sunday, Oct. 11
- Monthly brunch buffet - 9 a.m.-noon at the Buck Lake Community Center, 12 miles north of Nashwauk. This month's menu is Oktoberfest themed, with sauerkraut soup, Black Forest cake and other breakfast favorites.
