May is in full swing in Northern Minnesota! Here are some events to check out.
Tuesday, May 12
- Presentation and book signing - 12:45-2:30 p.m. at Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm. Maynard Okereke, the "Hip Hop M.D.," will blend science and music in a unique presentation. Afterward, Okereke will sign copies of his book Zombie Spiders & Asteroid Blasters: 16 Incredible Ways That Scientists Are Changing the World. Free for members, general admission for nonmembers.

- Warbler Walk - 7 a.m. at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids (every Wednesday and Saturday in May)
- Guided bird hike - 8 a.m. at Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. Register.
- Mental health webinar - noon, online. Hosted by the Grand Rapids chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Learn the difference between everyday stress and more serious issues. Register.
- Hibbing Community Connect - noon-4 p.m. at the Hibbing Memorial Building. Find community resources, a free meal and more.

- Brainerd Jazz Showcase - 7 p.m. at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd. Tickets are $8/adult, $6/student. Featuring all ISD 181 jazz bands with special guest Kenni Holmen.
Saturday, May 16

- Plant sale - 9 a.m.-noon at Bemidji Community Food Shelf.
- Plant sale - 9 a.m.-noon at the Beltrami County Fairground in Bemidji. Hosted by the Bemidji Garden Club an Beltrami County Master Gardeners.
- Spring Serenity Stroll - 10 a.m. at Lake Bemidji State Park. Meet at the west picnic area by the lake.
- Burger Bundle fundraiser - 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Anderson's Pine Point Resort on Leech Lake. Hosted by Walker Sons of the American Legion. Proceeds benefit the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley trapshooting team.
- Bemidji Woodcarvers Club open house - noon-4 p.m. at the Bemidji Senior Center
- Artist reception - 2-5 p.m. at Ripple River Gallery near Deerwood. Meet clay artist Nathan Bray and see his exhibit "We Are All Human."
- Bemidji Contra Dance - 5:30 p.m. at Lammers Town Hall in Solway, featuring a potluck dinner and silent auction.
Sunday, May 17
- Pancake breakfast - 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. Freewill donations will support Itasca County Habitat for Humanity.
- Tree seedling giveaway - 10 a.m. until supplies last at Sanford Center in Bemidji. Seedlings provided by Reforest Bemidji and First National Bank Bemidji are offered on a first come, first served basis.
- Group hike with the Arrowhead Chapter of the North Country Trail Association - 12:45 p.m., meet at Wabana Town Hall, north of Grand Rapids, to carpool. Hike to the historic Joyce Estate in the Chippewa National Forest.
