Events Up North May 4-10: Plant sale in Warba, K-9 event in Hibbing

Events this week include a webinar on mosquito ecology and a Mother's Day brunch at Buck Lake, north of Nashwauk.

May is here and there's so much to do across Northern Minnesota!

Here are some events to check out:

Monday, May 4

  • FFA Plant Sale - 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at Northern Lights Community School in Warba
  • Brown Bag Author Series - noon at Brainerd Public Library. Govinda Budrow, one of the authors of To Be Free, will speak.
  • 100+ Women Who Care Itasca Area spring fundraiser - 5 p.m. registration, 5:30 p.m. program at Timberlake Lodge in Grand Rapids
  • Grand Rapids Garden Club meeting - 6 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids. Robin Trott will speak about landscaping for birds.
  • Old Central School of Rock - 6-8 p.m. at Fire in the Village in Grand Rapids (Room 203 at Old Central School). Musicians of any skill level are welcome to jam. A limited supply of instruments is available.

  • Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Church in Clearbrook. Learn about one of the first female spies in the CIA.
  • Red Sand Project - 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, noon-1 p.m. at Central Lakes College in Staples
  • We Are All Storytellers with Margi Preus - 2 p.m. at Aurora Public Library

Thursday, May 7

  • Itasca Waters' Practical Water Wisdom webinar - noon, online. This month's topic is the ecology of mosquitoes.

Friday, May 8

Saturday, May 9 (Minnesota Walleye Fishing Opener)

Sunday, May 10

  • Happy Mother's Day!
  • Monthly brunch buffet - 9 a.m.-noon at Buck Lake Community Center, located 12 miles north of Nashwauk. $13 for all you care to eat. Proceeds benefit the Buck Lake Improvement Club.
