Events Up North April 20-26: Earth Day events, Iron Range Barn Dance

Events this week include a job fair in Virginia, a hike at Itasca State Park and KAXE's 50th birthday!

There's lots to do in Northern Minnesota this week!

Monday, April 20

  • "A Visit from Will Dilg" - 7 p.m. at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley High School in Walker. Learn about the founding president of the Izaak Walton League with actor Steven Marking.

Tuesday, April 21

  • "A Visit from Will Dilg" - 7 p.m. at Armory Arts & Event Center in Park Rapids. Learn about the founding president of the Izaak Walton League with actor Steven Marking.

Wednesday, April 22

  • Earth Day Cleanup - 8 a.m.-1 p.m at Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. Sign up for a shift.
  • Northern Exposure to Lifelong Learning - 9:30 a.m. at the Bagley Public Library. Hear about one couple's farm and how they transformed to renewable energy.
  • Earth Day lunch - 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at ReStore in Grand Rapids
  • Aging Well Together Community Conversation - 2:30 p.m. in the Active Living Center of the Itasca Family YMCA in Grand Rapids. This week's topic is "Cancer Fighters: Prevention and Screening."
  • Poetry & Printmaking with Shelley Getten - 4 p.m. at Aurora Public Library
  • Celebration of Our Earth - 5 p.m. at the Beltrami County Courthouse stage in Bemidji. Featuring music, modern dance and readings.
  • Earth Day clothing swap - 6-8 p.m. at Cohasset Community Center. Bring gently used clothing and take items that appeal to you.

  • Free state park day - Free admission at all Minnesota state parks and recreation areas
  • Dance calling workshop - Noon-4 p.m. at Maple Hill Community Club in Hibbing
  • Seeing the CCC: Walking Tour - 12:30 p.m. at Itasca State Park. Meet outside Forest Inn. The tour will last one hour, and the Old Timer's Cabin will be open for one hour following the tour.
  • Northland Mutual UFO Network meeting - 2-4:30 p.m. at the VFW in Grand Rapids
  • Artist reception and potluck - 4-6 p.m. at Ripple River Gallery near Deerwood. Fourteen artists present work with a theme of "Community."
  • Hometown Homemade Supper and Charlie Maguire's "Songs of America's Hometowns" concert - 5:30 p.m. supper, 6:45 concert at Clearwater Lutheran Church in Shevlin. Freewill donations will support the Clearwater County Historical Society and the Clearwater Lutheran Church.
  • Iron Range Barn Dance - 6:30-9 p.m. at Maple Hill Community Club in Hibbing
