Gift giving over the holidays can be fraught. What should you give? To whom should you give?
While it can be a lot of work, some find making something for others very fulfilling. Perhaps a homemade food item or something handmade is just the ticket.
For KAXE's Question of the Week, we asked: What do you make to give as gifts?
Here's what we heard
Lisa from Centerville, Minnesota, said, "It's been a few years, but I've made cashew brittle to give. It's amazing!"
Betty from Nevis wrote, "I bake Scottish shortbread every year. It's a tradition for me. Enough for family, friends, and co-workers."
Liz in Tamarack also likes to give something sweet. She said, "I make toffee every year for family and friends. Sugar, butter, pecans and chocolate. So easy and delicious; just heat to 300° in the big cast iron pot!"
Liz's husband Daryl likes giving gifts of service. "Consider shoveling the neighbors’ driveway or sidewalk. Is especially appreciated by the elderly or infirm," he texted.
Others chimed in about making food as gifts.
Rick from Big Lake told us, "I like to give food items that I have put up. Beef jerky, smoked salmon, maple syrup, dill pickles and spaghetti sauce. It seems to go over pretty well as a gift."
Don't forget about food for the birds! John in Chicago likes to give suet and birdseed wreaths that people can hang outside. He uses a Bundt pan to make them.
Susan from Cotton told us about handmade gifts she has received. "I am not crafty, but both my sisters are very artistic. And when their children were young, they would send me some lovely crafts their children made. Many of those are still ornaments on our tree. Those children are now having children … so I await a new set of beautiful crafts."
