This week, we've been asking about the things you made in shop or home economics class.

Recently on What's for Breakfast, we talked with Kevin from St. Paul.

His family moved to Grand Rapids when he was in junior high, and he told us about the culture shock he experienced in home economics class.

All the the boys were asked what kind of gun they had so that they could sew a case for it. He didn't have a gun, so was instructed to make a denim vest instead.

This got us talking about all the various projects we created in both shop and home ec classes.

Here's what we heard

Lisa from Balsam Township said, "In home ec, I made a peasant-style blouse in madras plaid. The patterns mostly matched up, and it was pretty cute. I sold it on the bus on the way home from school."

We heard a few stories from Joni in St. Paul. She explained how in home ec, each kitchen made coffee a different way, and in shop class, a classmate sanded off the pads of her fingers (OUCH!). She also shared a photo of the apron she made in seventh grade.

Carolyn from Grand Rapids told us: "I learned to sew on a Singer treadle sewing machine in ninth grade home ec at Valley Junior High in Grand Forks. I'll take a treadle over an electric any day. It was fun pumping away!"

Bill from Big Lake texted, "My group in class was four eighth grade boys. For our project, we chose cherries jubilee. We were specifically told we could not bring alcohol to put in it.

"Well, what we did was soak the cherries at home in rum. The teacher had no clue, and as we ate it all up, we became intoxicated. The teacher was befuddled as she swore up and down we had not brought any alcohol. We got to sit in the nurse's office for the remainder of the day."

Listen to Kevin's denim vest story above!
