- Artist-in-residence reception - 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sax-Zim Bog near Meadowlands
- Opening celebration for Park Rapids History Trail - 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hubbard County Historical Museum in Park Rapids
- Association of Cass County Lakes meeting - 2 p.m. at the Cass County Land Office in Backus. The meeting will focus on shoreline protection.
- Drum workshop & circle jam - 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Headwaters Music & Arts in Bemidji
- Hadestown - 7 p.m. at Mask & Rose Women's Theater in Puposky. Tickets available in advance only. Purchase at McKenzie Place in Bemidji.
Saturday, Aug. 23
- Pancake breakfast to benefit the local chapter of Experimental Aircraft Association - 8 a.m. to noon at Grand Rapids Airport
- Virginia Public Library Used Book Sale - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Iron Trail Motors Event Center in Virginia
- 34th annual "Corn-ival" - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lawron Presbyterian Church, located on Scenic Highway 7, north of Taconite. The event includes corn on the cob, BBQ sandwiches and other treats as well as a silent auction, live music and bake sale.
- Bemidji Pride Family Friendly Festival - noon to 5 p.m. at Rail River Folk School
- Hadestown - 7 p.m. at Mask & Rose Women's Theater in Puposky. Tickets available in advance only. Purchase at McKenzie Place in Bemidji.
