Events Up North Jan. 14-19: Lichen field trip and cardboard sleds

Events this week include Back to Hack in Hackensack, an artist reception in Bemidji, the Buhl Winter Frolic and Take a Kid Ice Fishing weekend.

It's another busy week in Northern Minnesota. Here are some events to check out:

Classic Movie Series - 6:30 p.m. at Paulucci Space Theater in Hibbing. This month's film is The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer from 1947. Conversation follows the film.

Back to Hack - various events in Hackensack
Artist reception for "Mayaadaaboonojig – The Ones Drifting Off on the Current" - 5-7 p.m. at Watermark Art Center in Bemidji
Campfire Jam - 6 p.m. at Headwaters Music and Arts in Bemidji

Friends of Flathorn Gegoka Trails' ribbon-cutting at Jensen Trailhead - 12:30 p.m. in the Superior National Forest
Back to Hack - various events like penguin plunge, snow golf, fireworks, fishing contest and more in Hackensack
Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend (through Monday, Jan. 20). Lake Bemidji State Park will provide equipment and heated shelters from 1-3 p.m.
Buhl Winter Frolic - 3-7 p.m. at Buhl skating rink. Enjoy activities like boot hockey, sledding and horse-drawn carriage rides.

Back to Hack - continues in Hackensack
World of Winter Lichens field trip - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sax-Zim Bog near Meadowlands. Register
First Annual Cardboard Classic - Noon registration, 1 p.m. races start at the Deer River city sliding hill.
