There's no place like home, and there's nothing like a memory of good home cooking. Our fall membership drive invites you to "Come Home to KAXE" and share what foods remind you of home.
Here's what we heard
"Pancakes. I don't even really like pancakes, but my son Alex loves them and we make them together — often with sprinkles in the batter, because why have unadorned pancakes?" said Heather Johnson, KAXE Member Services Coordinator. "When we moved into our new house, it didn't feel like home until Alex and I messed up the clean kitchen while making breakfast."
"Good BBQ burnt ends. The nearly charred ends of a beef brisket trimmed off after several hours of smoking, then roasted with brown sugar, butter and Kansas City style sauce — not necessarily KC Masterpiece, but it works if you can't get/make anything else," shared Steve Neu, KAXE Engineer. "Take this goodness and stir it into your cowboy beans and I might cry!"
We had over 50 responses on our Facebook post this week.
"Creamed asparagus on toast, lemon bars and strawberry jam on fresh baked bread," Becky wrote.
"Vegetables, fresh from the garden with lots of melted butter. Shelling Peas were the best," Ken said.
"A pork chop, cooked in Campbell's cream of mushroom soup, until the pork is pig leather and the mushroom soup is caramelized onto the pan I have to scrape for a half hour after dinner," Ben shared.
