At KAXE, we love sharing stories. This week, we've asked you to ponder what ONE album you would want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island. This, of course, assumes that there's electricity and the means to play your album.
Here's what we heard:
Cheryl said Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart.
Bill from Afton's is Waiting for Columbus by Little Feat or In Search of the Lost Chord by the Moody Blues.
KAXE volunteer Brandon Chase answered Abraxis by Santana or Robbie Robertson's Contact from the Underworld of Redboy.
Tom from Grand Rapids said, "It is rare to find an album that you enjoy listening to from beginning to end. However, in the past year, I have really enjoyed the latest Zach Bryan album, Sierra Ferrell, and of course, our own Wild Horses. As far as a classic, the Beatles Abbey Road is my all-time favorite."
Carol from Apple Valley said, "My desert island pick would be Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, but really, my list is very long."
Jim Gallagher chose Joni Mitchell’s Blue album.
KAXE volunteer Dawn Espe said Indigo Girls’ Swamp Ophelia.
Lisa from Balsam Township wrote, "I looked through the vinyl records to see if there was something I couldn’t live without. These sifted out (see photo)….as you can see I have not bought vinyl in a long time. I really need to get a record player again! I'm leaning toward Tapestry for its combination of lively and solemn pieces. Who isn't uplifted by "You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart!" Carole King, what a treasure! The soundtrack from The Big Chill would be hard to leave behind though. So many rockin' great Motown songs!!"
John from Bigfork selected Allman Brothers' Live at the Fillmore East.
KAXE volunteer Sarah Sarah said, "Jimi Hendrix has a new album coming out Oct. 4th. I could dig on that on the deserted island. Or more like RJD2's Dead Ringer album is right up my deserted island alley. "
Dave from Brooklyn Center chose Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and the live album Okonokos by My Morning Jacket.
KAXE volunteer Nelson wrote, "K-Tel’s Believe in Music. As my only album when I was 11, on the Desert Island called Oakdale, Minnesota (far east St. Paul suburb). I liked this a lot, so why not again?"
Michael from Nashwauk selected J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.
Barry from Grand Rapids' is Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
Joanne from Side Lake chose Madman Across the Water by Elton John.
KAXE volunteer Dave Peterson wrote, "What albums did I completely wear out and replace with a new one again? Jerry Jeff Walker's Viva Terlingua and Eat a Peach by the Allman Brother. I'm going with Viva Terlingua."
Peg from Grand Rapids' is Van Morrison’s Poetic Champions Compose.
Linda from Walker said, "For songs on a desert island, I would pick 'Albatross' by Fleetwood Mac. Instrumental soothing music. I was stuck on a bus route, and we had one cassette, Canned Heat. That got old quick."
Other responses from listeners included:
- Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
- Aja by Steely Dan, Abbey Road by The Beatles or Hell Freezes Over by The Eagles
- Dirt Floor by Chris Whitley or Train a Comin' by Steve Earle
- "I feel like if I’m going to be on a desert island, I'm going to need any Jimmy Buffett album."
What's your desert island album? Let us know!
