Phenology Report: 12/01/20

Marilyn Lee via KAXE-KBXE Season Watch FB Page

Phenology is the rhythmic biological nature of events as they relate to climate.  Each week, our resident phenologist John Latimer closely assesses the subtle changes happening outside and gives a full, official phenology report.  Included in this week's report are changes to the Christmas Bird Countdue to Covid-19 and some listener observations about chipmunks.  John also shares an essay about muskrats and encourages us to take notice of the art and architecture created by brush along the roadsides.  Check out details of these highlights and much more in the full report!

KAXE-KBXE Northern Community Radio is listener funded.  If you appreciate that programming like this exists in the world, consider making a year-end contribution to the stationto ensure we can continue this service for years to come!

Check out our Season Watch page on Facebook for more pics, videos and conversation about what's happening outside!

As a mail carrier in rural Grand Rapids, Minn., for 35 years, John Latimer put his own stamp on a career that delivered more than letters. Indeed, while driving the hundred-mile round-trip daily route, he passed the time by observing and recording seasonal changes in nature, learning everything he could about the area’s weather, plants and animals, and becoming the go-to guy who could answer customers’ questions about what they were seeing in the environment.
